"INTO THE WOODS"

Join Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk,
the Childless Baker and his wife, and the Wicked Witch on a trip into the woods

Directed by James Sohre

The Story: Steven Sondheim and James Lapine have intertwined the plots of some favorite fairy tales in creating a single, even bigger one. The first act opens with the stories of the Baker and his wife, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Cinderella. The Baker and his wife receive a short visit from Little Red Riding Hood, then they must enter the woods to assemble the ingredients for a potion required by their neighbor, the Witch, to remove a curse preventing them from having a child. In their search, they meet up with Jack, Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, as well as Cinderella, Rapunzel, and their respective Princes. These characters are all busy with their own fairy tales, but each possesses one ingredient for the potion. By the end of Act One, the curse is lifted, Jack kills the giant and is rich from stolen gold, the Wolf is killed, each damsel gets her respective Prince, and the Witch is transformed by her potion. All should live happily ever after, right? Well, almost. There's still Act II, and anything can happen in the woods.....

Into the Woods is regarded by some musical theater enthusiasts as composer Stephen Sondheim's greatest work. The music is alternately hilarious, tender, while at the same time ironic. 9 Tony Awards nominations and 3 wins, incl : Best Score and Best Book (this show bested the much acclaimed Phantom of the Opera for the Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Book when it opened on Broadway); 5 Drama Desk Awards, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical
