In the middle of a howling snowstorm, a bus pulls up at a cheerful roadside diner. All roads are blocked, and five weary and unlikely travelers are going to have to hole up until morning. Cherie, a nightclub chanteuse in a sparkling gown and a seedy fur-trimmed jacket, is the passenger with most to worry about. She’s been pursued, made love to, and finally kidnapped by a twenty-one-year-old cowboy with a ranch of his own and the romantic methods of an unusually headstrong bull.

Pulitzer Prize and Oscar-winning playwright William Inge has filled his play with humor, pathos, and unexpected romance. Perhaps, though, it's the vividness and humanity of Inge's colorful characters that makes Bus Stop such a beloved American classic. “….Mr. Inge has put together an uproarious comedy that never strays from the truth.” NY Times.
Bus Stop features a snow-bound cast of eight characters each searching for their own way to "keep out of the cold" in a small roadside restaurant in Kansas. Characters include:
Grace Hoyland (35-45) - Runs the bus stop/restaurant and knows what she wants out of life;
Elma Duckworth (16-ish) - A naïve and bright high-schooler working at the restaurant as a waitress, full of questions and dreams;
Will Masters (40's-mid 50's), Sheriff, strong, imposing figure, means business but friendly;
Cherie (20's/early 30s) - chanteuse (aspiring singer), pretty, fragile, grew up too fast, too much makeup, from the Ozarks;
Dr. Gerald Lyman (45+)- former professor, intelligent, dry, witty, alcoholic, divorced, likes young girls;
Carl (30-50) - Bus Driver, good ol boy, has seen just about everything, likes the ladies;
Bo Decker (25-35) - Ranch Owner, cowboy, brash, loud, impulsive, naïve, innocent and simple;
Virgil (40's-50's) Ranch Hand, good-hearted simple cowboy, like a father to Bo, plays guitar a bit.Auditions:
